In case I haven�t mentioned it enough, I just wanted to note how awesome Nya is. She just finished the first week of a sketch comedy show in which she both performs and wrote material. It�s called �Soft Corn Porn� and is Corn Productions� dirty show. (No, it�s not only that kind of place. They also have a long-running PG show and even an upcoming production for children.)
I�m so proud of her. She turned a chance meeting into an opportunity. We first encountered the group totally randomly. One of our first weekends here, I saw a performance listed (I think on the Chicago Tribune website) that I thought Nya would like. So we went to Corn�s annual production of the �Cobbie� awards. Rather phallic-looking corncobs are jokingly given out to the �best� shows in Chicago theater.
Of course, we hadn�t seen most of the plays. Although we later went to a show that unsurprisingly won many �Cobbies�, Corn�s own musical version of The Bad Seed, I hadn�t even watched the movie yet when saw the play. But it was still a lot of fun. We still sometimes say lines from it to each other. They had free food and drinks (which I�m a fan of) and it was in a gay bar (which Nya�s a fan of).
Seeing such a fun performance put on by a random local acting group reassured us that Chicago is indeed a comedy theater town and that Nya had come to the right place. And she totally worked it that night. She met with the cast, who were all really nice, and talked with the director who ran the company. She told him she wrote comedy material and acted too. She later emailed him some of her stuff.
He liked it so much he used one sketch (I think it�s the funniest piece in the show � well, there is a bit where a puppet orgasms that�s pretty good, but not as good as my girl�s stuff) and cast her. For the past couple months, she�s been rehearsing most nights after working all day. And she cooks for us. And she takes care of my place. And hers. And her cats. I feel like a sloth by comparison. I mean, what the hell value do I add to our relationship?
Anyway, you should see it if you�re in Chicagoland. It plays Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 8 through March 17th. And laugh. Hey, how many guys ask you to laugh at their girlfriend?
